Background
Yerba Santa grows naturally and is grown in California and northern Mexico. The name comes from Spanish and means "holy herb". But long before the Spaniards came, the plant had been used for its medical and spiritual qualities. As medicine, it has been used to treat and alleviate various respiratory problems. It was then drunk as tea and burned as incense.
